A valuable skill in life and work is being able to manage your time. Once you’ve nailed time management, you will find it’s easier to achieve your goals and will feel rewarded for doing so.

There are only 24 hours in a day, so it’s not about how much time you spend doing something, it’s about how you manage your time effectively.

Most people will have to juggle other tasks including childcare, work, family commitments, appointments, etc. Effective time management is crucial to help you stay focused on your reflexology course or online course.

1. Planning Ahead

An already hectic schedule coupled with everyday distractions is likely going to get in the way of you being able to complete your reflexology course.

It’s easy to get distracted by the internet or other chores, so planning ahead can help set a schedule for you to follow and stick to. You’ll need to set aside plenty of time to complete your assignments and perform your research. Here are a few tips to consider:

  • Purchase a calendar to plan your day and week
  • Highlight any assignments or coursework due
  • Prioritise activities in relation to your course
  • Plan any meetings or events with plenty of time on either side
  • Set aside time for online or remote calls

2. Don’t Multitask

Multitasking can decrease your productivity. Getting multiple things done at once doesn’t eliminate them any faster than focussing on them individually and giving them your full attention.

Even if you have many tasks to complete, prioritise the most important ones and don’t let your mind focus on anything else. If you don’t need the internet for your work, turn it off so you’re not tempted to check your social media, emails, etc.

It doesn’t matter how you work, as long as you set up your workspace efficiently. Whether you decide to work with headphones in, with music or TV in the background, or in complete silence, your workspace should meet your needs.

  • Ensure the lighting isn’t too bright or too dark
  • Close any non-essential browser windows on your computer
  • Remove any immediate distractions
  • Turn off your phone if you don’t need it

4. Remove Any Distractions

It’s really easy to become distracted. Whether you’re meeting a friend for a coffee, browsing the web, or something else, these distractions are not going to help you manage your time effectively.

Here are some tips to stay in the zone:

  • Remove social media temptations
  • Plan your work in 30-minute slots
  • Ensure you have regular breaks (but not too many)
  • Make sure you eat and drink

5. Reward Yourself

As well as working hard, it’s essential to reward yourself for a job well done. It’s easy to burn yourself out if you’ve done a lot of work. Even if you feel like you’re in the flow of things, take time for yourself too.

You can reward yourself through a number of things including celebrating accomplishments, treating yourself to a takeaway/film, buying a new item of clothing, or whatever makes you feel good.

If you’ve finished your course, you can plan a breakaway for a week to give yourself time to rest from all of your hard work. Remember, you’re the one putting the work in, so you should be rewarded for achieving it.

6. Create The Right Balance

Work and studying can’t be your only focus or you’ll burn out easily. Similar to rewarding yourself, it’s important to create the right balance between life and work.

Make sure you prioritise your time efficiently to ensure you can focus on what you need to at the right time. Whilst a schedule may sound boring, it can be very useful to create a balance in your life.

7. Getting A Good Nights Sleep

When we sleep, our mind and body repair themselves after the day we’ve had. Sleep is absolutely essential, and staying up and overworking is not going to do any good.

Working too much or studying too much can actually make your progress worse and can cause you to become unwell. Make sure you get a good 7 to 8 hours of rest each night and shut down any devices that could distract you.
